2023 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS launched in Malaysia, from RM2.6m – 525hp, 465Nm, 0-100km/h in 3.2secs

Porsche’s latest road-legal high-performance sports car – the all-new 2023 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has finally made its official launch in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit. Priced at RM2,630,000 with taxes, the new rear-wheel drive GT sports car measures 4,572 mm long, 2,027 mm wide, and 1,322 mm tall, and is underpinned by a 2,467 mm wheelbase.

Let’s just get straight to the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 RS’ exterior design. Take a look and it and you immediately know that it is a race car made for the tracks, which it is.

Porsche has designed this 992-generation 911 GT3 RS with a large number of functional aerodynamic elements and with essentially zero number of fakeries. The most prominent aerodynamic piece that you certainly can’t miss is the huge rear wing.

The wing consists of a fixed main wing and an upper wing element that is hydraulically adjustable. This latest-gen 911 GT3 RS is also the first Porsche production vehicle to feature a rear wing that is higher than the car’s roof.

Together with other aerodynamic measures such as the front splitter, sideblades, front-wheel inlets, inlets behind the front wheels, fins on the roof, rear diffuser, and a rear wheel arch intake, a total downforce of 409 kg can be provided when travelling at 200 km/h. However, that is not all. When at 285 km/h, the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 RS can even deliver a total downforce of 860 kg.

Porsche has also gone to another level by fitting its road-legal track car with an F1 style drag reduction system (DRS), which is a first in a production Porsche. The DRS allows the 911 GT3 RS’ wings to be flattened out at the push of a button. This enables it to achieve low drag and higher speed on straight sections.

There are a total of four individual rotary controls located on the steering wheel for the DRS. As the drivers adjust these settings, they can also see the rotary controls displayed via graphics on the instrument cluster.

Instead of the three-radiator layout seen in its predecessors, the new 992 generation 911 GT3 RS now features one large angled centre radiator in the car’s nose. With this design, air from the radiator will flow out via the GT sports car’s large nostrils on the front lid. The fins on the roof will then direct the air outwards to ensure cooler intake temperatures in the rear. This means the frunk that was present in other 911 models is now gone.

But this design change has simultaneously freed up some space on the sides for Porsche to integrate active aerodynamic elements. Under the car’s nose are also adjustable flaps that can rotate by 80 degrees to either increase or decrease the downforce at the front end.

A summary of exterior kits included with the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is as follows:

  • LED headlamps
  • LED rear lamps
  • Two-part rear wing with DRS
  • 20-inch front wheels, 21-inch rear wheels
  • Carbon fibre doors
  • Central mono-radiator system
  • Adjustable flaps
  • Front-wheel arch louvred outlets
  • Front splitter
  • Front-wheel inlets
  • Front hood nostrils
  • Roof fins

Powering the new Porsche-branded track machine is a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated (NA) 6-cylinder Boxer engine that makes 525 hp (metric) and 465 Nm, thanks to new camshafts and modified cam profiles. The mill is paired with a 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox that features overall shorter gear ratios than the “regular” 911 GT3.

With power sent to the rear wheels, the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. Its top speed on the other hand is rated at 296 km/h.

Suspension-wise, the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is equipped with a double-wishbone setup up front and a multi-link setup at the rear. The double-wishbone front axle is designed with teardrop-shaped profiles, which helps increase downforce on the front axle by around 40 kg when travelling at top speed. The multi-link rear axle has also been adjusted with modified spring rates.

Providing stopping power are 408 mm aluminium monobloc fixed-calliper six-piston brakes up front, and 380 mm four-piston brakes at the rear. Fitted as standard on the all-new Porsche GT3 RS are forged light-alloy centre-lock wheels that measure 20 inches up front and 21 inches at the back. The design is meant to ensure a high level of mechanical grip, as mentioned by Porsche.

A summary of the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS’ performance-related specifications would be as such:

  • Engine: 4.0-litre NA 6-cylinder Boxer engine
  • Transmission: 7-speed PDK
  • Total output: 525 hp (metric)
  • Total torque: 465 Nm
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.2 seconds
  • Top speed: 296 km/h
  • Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive (RWD)
  • Front suspension: Double-wishbone front axle with teardrop-shaped profile
  • Rear suspension: Multi-link rear axle

Inside, the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is finished in black leather, Racetex, and carbon-weave. The GT sports car is also fitted with full bucket seats, alongside a GT-sports steering wheel, and an instrument cluster that consists of two 7-inch information displays and an analogue tachometer.

Here’s a summary of the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS’ interior specifications:

  • Black leather, Racetex, and carbon-weave upholstery
  • GT-sports steering wheel
  • Full bucket seats
  • Instrument cluster with two 7-inch information display and analogue tachometer

Just in case its stock interior just isn’t “GT” enough, you may take it up a notch by opting for the Clubsport package at no extra cost. This includes a steel rollover bar, a hand-held fire extinguisher, and a six-point seat belt for the driver.

Porsche is also offering the Weissach package at an estimated cost of RM410,000 which includes kits such as the front lid, roof, parts of the rear ring, and the upper shell of the exterior mirrors that are finished in carbon weave. The package also includes front and rear anti-roll bars, rear coupling roads, and a shear panel on the rear axle that is made out of CRFP. The rollover bar, which has been constructed from CRFP for the first time, saves around six kilograms compared to steel.

With the Weissaxch package, you will get PDK paddle shifters that come with motorsport-derived magnet technology as well. This provides a more precise pressure point and a satisfying click. The magnesium-forged wheels that come with this package also help save another 8 kg.

To recap, the all-new 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has just made its official debut in Malaysia. Priced from RM2,630,000, the GT sports car comes with the Clubsport package at no extra cost, and customers may also add around RM410,000 to their bill for the Weissach package as well. The car also has a matching RM89,887 Exclusive Porsche Design Chronograph to go with it.
