5th-gen Honda City: Over 68,600 units sold in Malaysia since launch, facelift in Q3 2023



Since its introduction to the Malaysian market in 2020, over 68,600 units of the 5th-gen Honda City have been sold to date, at least according to Honda Malaysia. In the first half of 2023 alone, over 10,000 units of the B-segment saloon by Honda have been sold. These achievements were announced by Honda Malaysia together with the announcement of the upcoming facelift which is due in the third quarter of 2023.

The Honda City is B-segment saloon and is made available in five variants – S, E, V, V Sensing, and RS. The last one is a mild hybrid version of the car while the rest are powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine. The Honda City also gets a hatchback version, but the sales figures shared are only for the sedan Honda City.

Honda City facelift

The Honda City goes up against cars like the Toyota Vios, Nissan Almera, and the Proton Persona. In this segment, the Toyota Vios is still the reigning champion, holding on to its title as the best-selling B-segment saloon since its introduction to the Malaysian market.

As for the Honda City, the first generation (SX8) was introduced in 1996, followed by the 2nd generation (GD8) in 2002, the 3rd generation (GM2) in 2008, the 4th generation (GM6) in 2014, and the 5th-gen Honda City (GN2) in 2020. The upcoming facelift will still be part of the 5th generation which is also known as the GN2 Honda City.

The Honda City is sold in many markets including India, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, and Japan. In some markets, the City is also known as the Grace.

The new facelifted Honda City is set to launch in Malaysia in the third quarter of the year. It made its global debut in India and has already been launched in Thailand as well. The facelifted Honda City will not only feature a refreshed look but also some enhanced safety features.
