Porsche’s updated smartphone integration enables climate controls within Apple CarPlay

Porsche has rolled out a new version of its My Porsche App, offering its customers added vehicle functionalities within the Apple CarPlay experience in its vehicles. With the new update, Porsche owners can now control their vehicle’s audio, climate, comfort, lighting, and entertainment settings, directly through the CarPlay interface.

The German sportscar maker says that it’s the first automotive manufacturer to offer these extended Apple CarPlay functionalities. In addition to the new buttons on the interface to do things like changing radio stations or adjust the in-car temperature, customers can also utilise Siri voice commands to adjust the settings hands-free.

The Updated Apple CarPlay functionality will initially be available on the new 2023 Porsche Cayenne, before being rolled out onto other models in the future. Of course, since this is an update to the My Porsche app itself, all of these settings can also be accessed via the mobile phone application once it’s connected to the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system on your car.

Essentially, the new My Porsche App update is a hacky way for to include these functionalities into Apple CarPlay, before the next-generation CarPlay experience is rolled out in the future.

During the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) last year, Apple previewed a new CarPlay experience that will act as the operating system, powering all software functions within the car. The first vehicles with the updated CarPlay are expected to launch later this year.
