Perodua sold 145k cars in H1 2023, Bezza exceeds Myvi by 8k units

With the first half of the year completed, local carmaker Perodua has successfully sold 144,690 cars in total. Showing a 13.6% growth from last year, Perodua says that it is on track to meet its target of 314,000 cars sold by the end of 2023.

In terms of model distribution, the best-selling Perodua for the first half of the year was the Perodua Bezza with 40,555 units sold. The Bezza is followed by the Myvi with 32,319 units and the Axia with 28,199 units. As for the “new” 2023 Axia E manual, Perodua reports that 2,500 units of the base model car were sold in just 48 hours.

Together with the growth in sales, production is also up for this year. In the last six months, Perodua produced 153,813 cars which is a 17% growth from the previous year. The production target for this year is 330,000 units.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “The higher production and sales performances for the first half of 2023 were due to better supply of parts as well as improved production efficiency at our manufacturing plant.”

“Among the notable improvements we have made include the faster tact time (the time it takes to produce a vehicle) from 1.35 minutes to 1.25 minutes at our Perodua Global Manufacturing plant (PGMSB).”

Dato’ Sri Zainal said the bulk of the production performance of this year so far was achieved in the first quarter of 2023 as Perodua went all out to meet its PENJANA obligations.

Dato’ Sri Zainal said, “Looking ahead, we expect both production and sales to continue their uptrend as demand for our vehicles remain healthy. For example, our recently launched Axia E was well received and our ready stock of 2,500 vehicles were completely distributed within 48 hours.”

The Perodua President said that while existing bookings were encouraging, there are potential challenges ahead, ranging from potential higher financing costs and intermittent supply shortages.
