All-new Suzuki Swift reportedly to debut this year, hybrid Swift Sport in the works

The Suzuki Swift has been a popular Japanese hatchback since it was first introduced to the market in 2004, especially among car enthusiasts. This is for a couple of reasons, including its sporty looks, nimble handling, rev-happy engines, and most importantly, the Swift is a practical, economical, and no-frills daily runabout.

The Suzuki Swift is currently in its third generation, which was first launched in 2017, making the current generation Swift six years old in 2023 (time flies eh?), and one would expect a facelift or an all-new generation Swift to be in the process of development already. And you are probably right, as the all-new fourth-generation Suzuki Swift is reportedly making its world debut this year, with its hot hatch sibling – the Swift Sport coming sometime next year, according to Japanese publication Bestcarweb.

There has been a number of renderings of what people think the fourth-generation Suzuki Swift might look like being circulated online. However, the actual car has already been sighted testing on public roads, albeit wrapped in camouflage.

Even though the car was completely wrapped in camouflage, a couple of differences made to the car can be easily spotted. This includes a redesigned front fascia, sleeker-looking LED headlights, and a clamshell-shaped bonnet. The frontal of the upcoming Suzuki Swift was also seen sporting a revised bumper design, new fog lamps, as well as a wider air inlet.

Other cosmetic upgrades Suzuki has given to the upcoming fourth-generation Swift include a sloping roofline design, new LED tail lights, a redesigned rear spoiler and bumper, as well as a tweaked tailgate. Another interesting change is the rear door handles that have seemingly been repositioned from the C pillars back to the conventional rear door position. The car’s overall dimensions are also expected to be larger than those of the third generation.

Powertrain-wise, Bestcarweb has reported that the regular Suzuki Swift will be sporting a mild hybrid system consisting of a 1.2-litre inline-three engine and an electric motor. As for the sportier Swift Sport, it is expected to be featuring a mild hybrid system as well, but with a more powerful 1.4-litre inline-four turbocharged engine.

At the end of the day, none of the details regarding the fourth-generation Suzuki Swift has been officially confirmed just yet. What we can say for sure is that a camouflaged all-new Swift has undergone testing on public roads. Therefore, we can only wait and see if those information will turn out to be true, or not.
