TotalEnergies and Li-Ning launch first 3v3 badminton tournament in Malaysia



TotalEnergies and Li-Ning have just launched the very first official 3v3 badminton tournament in Malaysia – the 3v3 TotalEnergies x Li-Ning Cup. This tournament is the first 3v3 badminton tournament that both companies are co-organizing in Southeast Asia. The 3v3 badminton tournament is also mainly targeted towards non-professional badminton players in Malaysia, in hopes of discovering new badminton talent.

The 3v3 TotalEnergies x Li-Ning Cup 2023 will be kickstarting its first match in Kuala Lumpur on September 15, 2023. The second match will be held in Johor, followed by Penang, and Sarawak. Winners from each state will then compete in a grand finale on November 18 and 19, 2023 in Kuala Lumpur.

There are a total of four categories available for the 3v3 badminton tournament. This includes:

  • Men’s Team with two age groups – under 30 and above 30 years old
  • Mixed Open Team with at least one female player
  • Mixed Fun Team with at least one player under 15 years of age

There will be a RM300 registration fee per time with goodies worth RM900 in value given to the teams. Additionally, there is a total of RM338,800 worth of prizes to be won by the winners of the 3v3 TotalEnergies x Li-Ning Cup badminton tournament. However, only Malaysian citizens are eligible to participate in the badminton tournament. National or professional players who have participated in international tournaments sanctioned by Badminton Asia and Badminton World Federation (BWF) within the past five years (2018 till 2023) are also not eligible to participate in the tournament.

The launch ceremony of the 3v3 TotalEnergies x Li-Ning Cup badminton tournament was officiated by the Director of Sunlight Sports Sdn Bhd, Dato Sri Sam Soh, together with Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Malaysia, Jennifer Li, Business Development Head of Li-Ning Malaysia, Simon Soh, Assistant General Manager of IOI City Mall, Wilfred Wong, as well as former badminton legend Tan Boon Heong. Goh Liu Ying and Janice Woon also graced the event as key supporters of the 3v3 TotalEnergies x Li-Ning Cup.

Prior to this, the TotalEnergies Li-Ning Lo Yongbo Cup 3v3 Badminton Tournament is a popular series in China. The series has been played in more than 20 cities across the country each year since 2017.

Most recently in Korea, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by TotalEnergies’ joint venture company S-OIL TotalEnergies Lubricants Co., Ltd to be an official partner of the Badminton Korea Association and a sponsorship partner of international badminton games held in Korea. These will be organized by BWF and hosted by Badminton Korea Association.
