Third-gen Lexus GX set for June 8 debut – New light bar taillight design

Lexus has just released teaser images of its third-generation Lexus GX off-road luxury SUV and has confirmed its launch to be held in Austin Texas on June 8, 2023. After a long 14-year production run of the second-generation Lexus GX, Lexus has finally given the off-roader a much-needed update.

The teaser image Lexus has provided includes large portions of the all-new Lexus GX’s rear and side profile, which shows a considerable resemblance to the latest-gen Toyota Land Cruiser. However, a couple of differences can be spotted, including an LED light bar that connects the taillights.

The upcoming third-generation Lexus GX also looks to feature a squared-out design profile, as well as boxy-shaped side mirrors, which are taller and narrower than the ones found on the Land Cruiser. The Japanese luxury carmaker has also released an image of the upcoming luxury off-roader’s full LED headlights, as well as its signature Nike-esque daytime running lights (DRL).

Considering how Toyota has been sharing its body-on-frame platforms across Toyota and Lexus off-roaders, the new Lexus GX is also expected to be sharing the same platform together with the latest-gen Toyota Land Cruiser. Powertrain-wise, the GX will most probably be powered by a similar powertrain to the one on the Land Cruiser.

The Lexus GX’s Toyota Cousin, the Land Cruiser Prado has been reported to be debuting around April 2024 and might have its name changed to the LandCruiser 250 Series instead, according to Japanese publication Creative Media.
