PHS Automotive announces recall for 2,767 Audi vehicles in Malaysia with Takata airbag

PHS Automotive Malaysia, the new guardian for the Audi brand here, has announced a voluntary recall totalling 2,767 cars for the inspection and replacement of the Takata airbag and related parts.

The models involved in the recall includes Audi A4 Sedan, A5 Sportback, A6 Sedan, Q5, and TT Coupe maufactured between 2008 and 2017, that are fitted with Takata airbags or gas generator for the airbag unit on the driver’s side, passenger side, and curtains.

Based on the manufacturer’s latest update, the gas generator housing may be damaged if the airbag is deployed. This could cause small metal parts to become dislodged from the housing, posing a serious safety risk.

PHSAM Managing Director, Erik Winter said, “At Audi, safety is paramount, and this will continue to be one of the distinguishing factors in our ongoing efforts to improve aftersales service. We recognise that the top reasons customers choose Audi are for its performance and safety features – and it is a high standard we will continue to uphold responsibly.”

The Takata airbag recall has involved more than 100 million vehicles worldwide, across multiple brands, since 2015. To date, there has been at least seven fatal accidents in Malaysia involving the faulty airbag system.

While the company has determined the number of vehicles involved in the recall, not all of them will need replacement parts. However, all affected customers are encouraged to have their vehicles inspected at the company’s service centres for better peace of mind.

For more information on the recall, customers are advised to visit the Audi Malaysia website, linked here, or contact Audi Customer Service at 1800-22-2834, or email via [email protected].

PHS Automotive also recently launched the new Audi Plus programme, offering a 10% discount on maintenance services at Audi Centres for vehicles five years and older. Customers will also receive 3 service discount vouchers, which are applicable within a period of three years after the fifth year of service, along with complimentary Audi Roadside Assistance nationwide for up to 12 months from the date of voucher redemption.
