Video: 2023 Nissan Leaf, RM169k EV with 311km range – 5 Things

Many electric vehicles (EVs) have entered the Malaysian market, but one of the early ones to do so was the Nissan Leaf along with a French EV. To keep up with the younger EVs, the 2023 Nissan Leaf facelift is now in Malaysia in a single variant that costs RM168,888.

Changes to the outside are minor items like the front bumper, rear diffuser, and wheels. The most significant change to the exterior is under the charging flap where there is now a Type 2 socket for AC charging, replacing the old Type 1 socket. For DC charging, however, it still has to be done via a CHAdeMO socket.

Not much, but a refresh nonetheless, the 2023 Nissan Leaf gets a new aero grille that has chucked out the old chrome trim piece that used to run between the headlights. The headlights now get a black inner finishing. The rear end has remained largely the same as well, except for the new rear spoiler and new rear diffuser.

As for colours, the Nissan Leaf comes in a total of 7 body colours that include Stealth Grey, Akatsuki Sunrise Copper, Opera Mauve, Vivid Blue, Midnight Black, Burgundy, and Pure White Pearl. All colour options come with a ‘Super Black’ roof.

Powering the Nissan Leaf is a single electric motor that makes 150 hp (metric) and 320 Nm. 0-100 km/h is done in 7.9 seconds and the Leaf has a top speed of 155 km/h. Power is only sent to the front wheels.

As for the battery, its capacity remains at 40 kWh like the pre-facelift model. The battery still does not get any form of active cooling and is only passively cooled. The electric range is 311 km on the NEDC test cycle. Charging can be done at a maximum rate of 6.6 kW with AC charging and 50 kW with DC charging. The former takes 1 hour to complete while the latter takes 7 hours to complete.

Inside, things remain largely the same except for the new 8-inch head unit and a new smart rear-view mirror. The head unit gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity. The smart rearview mirror is connected to a camera at the back of the car to give you a clear view of the back of the car.

Safety-wise, the 2023 Nissan Leaf is equipped with High Beam Assist, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking, Intelligent Around View Monitor with Intelligent Moving Object Detection, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Intelligent Ride Control, Intelligent Trace Control, and Hill Start Assist.
