Gallery: Peugeot 2008 Allure, from RM134k – The French alternative

If you’re looking for something a little different in the small SUV segment, you might want to take a gander at the Peugeot 2008, which is available in the single “Allure” variant in Malaysia. Locally assembled in Malaysia at the Stellantis plant in Gurun, the car costs RM134,103, on the road (OTR) without insurance.

By the way, if you’re looking to renew your car insurance, you can get a 10% rebate and cash back at the end of your policy if you renew with MotorTakaful by Etiqa. Just log on to www.motortakaful.com.

All it takes is one look to see what an adorable yet aggressive-looking car the Peugeot 2008 is. Despite its compact size, the Peugeot 2008 features interesting angular surfaces that create a taut appearance on the car. The headlights are large and adorable, yet complemented with the “Lion fang” daytime running lights (DRLs) that stretch vertically on the front bumper. For practicality’s sake, the Peugeot 2008 comes with plastic claddings all around and even roof rails for those with an active lifestyle.

Come to the rear and you will see the interesting taillight design of the 2008. They have a “claw” like design and are connected to each other via a gloss black trim piece. Not made obvious, the 2008 does have a set of dual exhaust tips, hinting at its rather playful nature.

As for wheels, the Peugeot 2008 Allure comes with a set of 17-inch dual tone alloy wheels with a five-double spoke design. The wheels are wrapped in a set of GoodYear Assurance TripleMax 2 tyres. Colour options for the Peugeot 2008 include Fusion Orange, Amazonite Grey, Nera Black, and Pearl White. This particular unit that you see in these pictures is finished in Nera Black.

Under the hood of the Peugeot 2008 is a 1.2-3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The engine makes 130 hp at 5,500 rpm and 230 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, power is sent to the front wheels only.

The 2008 gets ventilated disc brakes in front and solid disc brakes in the rear. As for suspension, the car gets a MacPherson strut setup at the front and a torsion beam setup in the back.

Like other Peugeots, getting into the Peugeot 2008 is quite an interesting experience. Firstly, you’ll be greeted by the small steering wheel followed by the spaceship-like controls on the dashboard. The small steering wheel requires you to look over it to see the instrument cluster. Despite being an interesting place to be in, the cockpit is rather well built and feels good to touch. Most of the things are solid inside the 2008.

Screen-wise, you do get a 7-inch central head unit that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via a wired connection. There’s also a 10-inch 3D digital instrument cluster that features a hologram-like appearance that serves to increase your response rate to warnings and information on the instrument cluster. The seats are wrapped in a leatherette upholstery and all windows are powered and get a ‘One Touch” function.

In the safety department, advanced standard safety features on the 2008 include high beam assist, blind spot monitoring, active lane keeping assist, active safety brake, and driver attention warning. Other safety features include hill start assist and an engine immobilizer.

Included in the price of the Peugeot 2008 is a 5-year/100,000 km manufacturer warranty and a 5-year/100,000 km free scheduled maintenance.
