Video: Chery is back! Here are the 5 SUVs set for launch in Malaysia

Chery is returning to Malaysia, and to kick things off, they’ve earmarked five SUV models to be launched here on our shores. All five of them were shown off for the first time in Malaysia recently at a media preview event, including a region-first appearance for the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV. But as you might expect, all eyes were on the Omoda 5.

Designed as Chery’s first-ever global model, the Omoda 5’s ‘Art of Motion’ design language is just incredibly eye-catching, thanks to its unique borderless grille, sharp lines, and futuristic exterior lighting.

It’s similarly modern on the inside too, with the headlining feature being the twin floating 10.25-inch displays on the dashboard, with the central infotainment display supporting both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity from the factory. Who said Chinese cars can’t have that?

It’ll be offered in two powertrain configurations – a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired to a CVT gearbox, making 154 hp and 230 Nm, as well as a 1.6-litre turbocharged mill paired to a seven-speed DCT gearbox, making 194 hp and 290 Nm.

Chery also announced its plans to introduce a fully-electric version of the Omoda 5 here in Malaysia, although specifications for that are not made available just yet.
