The new Porsche 911 Carrera T is the most affordable 911 with a 7-speed manual

New to the Porsche 911 lineup is the Porsche 911 Carrera T, with the ‘T’ being short for Touring. Powered by the entry-level 911 engine, the 911 Carrera T slots between the 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera S. It is also the lightest Porsche 911 (with the entry-level engine).

The Biturbo flat-6 engine makes 385 hp (metric) and 450 Nm. Singing its tune is a Sports Exhaust System that is standard on the Porsche 911 Carrera T. Also standard on the 911 Carrera T is a seven-speed manual gearbox, which is the main reason why the 911 Carrera T is the lightest 911 (The 911 Carrera is not available with a manual box). Customers also have the option to choose an eight-speed PDK gearbox but would then forego the ‘lightest 911’ title.

Also equipped on the Porsche 911 Carrera T is the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear differential lock. Besides that, the Carrera T also gets PASM Sport suspension as standard.

Cutting the weight of the 911 Carrera T is the lack of back seats, reduced insulation, use of lightweight glass, and use of a lightweight battery. The powertrain accelerates all 1,470 kg of the Carrera T from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

In the handling department, an optional item for the Carrera T is the rear-axle steering system. The system turns the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels at high speeds, but in the opposite direction at low speeds for maximum manoeuvrability.

To identify the 911 Carrera T from the outside, you simply have to look out for the dark grey accentuating details. Contrasting elements such as the top and bottom trim on the exterior mirrors, the new door logos and the rear logos, and the trim strips on the rear lid grille feature Agate Grey. The windscreen also features a grey top tint.

Completing the exterior look of the 911 Carrera T are a set of ‘T’-specific ‘Titanium Grey Carrera S’ wheels which are 20 inches in front and 20 inches at the rear. The tyres are 245/35 in front and 305/30 at the rear.

Inside, the 911 Carrera T gets four-way Sports Seats Plus as standard. The interior is mainly decorated in matte black and high-gloss black. Standard in the 911 Carrera T is the Sports Chrono package. An optional Carrera T interior package is available in case customers wish to spruce things up on the inside. And should they decide to, they will receive additional contrasting-coloured seatbelts (Slate Grey or Lizard Green).
