New Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV unveiled with 687 hp AMG version, up to 590 km range

Ahead of its Paris Motor Show world premiere, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest addition to the EQ family, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. It is the fourth Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle (EV) to be built on a dedicated EV platform and Mercedes-Benz has also unveiled two AMG versions of it. In total, there are five versions of the EQE SUV:

  • EQE 350+ SUV
  • EQE 350 4MATIC SUV
  • EQE 500 4MATIC SUV
  • Mercedes-AMG 43 4MATIC EQE SUV
  • Mercedes-AMG 53 4MATIC+ EQE SUV

Looking very much related to the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, the EQE SUV measures 4,863 mm long, 1,940 mm wide, and 1,686 mm tall. Overall, the EQE SUV is slightly smaller than the BMW X5. At the front, the EQE SUV features the EQ-signature black panel unit which is available with the optional Mercedes-Benz pattern.

LED High-Performance headlamps are standard on the EQE SUV, and Digital Light is available as an optional extra. Also optional on the EQE SUV are running boards and flush-fitting door handles. Depending on the variant, the wheel sizes range from 19 to 22 inches. Upon unveiling, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV was listed with three variants – EQE 350+, EQE 350 MATIC, and EQE 500 4MATIC.

In its base form, the EQE 350+ SUV makes 292 hp and 565 Nm via an electric drive system powering the rear wheels. The EQE 350 4MATIC makes 292 hp and 765 Nm with an addition of a front electric drive system. In its range-topping version, the EQE 500 4MATIC makes 408 hp and 858 Nm with one electric motor powering the rear wheels and one electric motor powering the front wheels.

All versions of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV are powered by a 90.6-kWh 10-module battery pack. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) EQE 350+ SUV has a WLTP range of up to 590 km, while EQE 350 4MATIC SUV and EQE 500 4MATIC SUV have ranges of up to 558 km and 547 km respectively.

As for charging, the EQE SUV can handle 170-kW DC Fast charging which helps the car regain 220 km of range in just 15 minutes. Standard AC charging for the EQE SUV is rated at 11 kW, but customers have the option to upgrade to 22-kW AC charging should they desire.

On the inside, the EQE SUV features Mercedes-Benz’s new signature MBUX Hyperscreen which is enclosed in a fine silver shadow frame, a vent band, and a narrow leather edge. The base EQE 350+ SUV does not get the Hyperscreen. The Neotex structure on the inside combines the look of Nubuck leather and high-tech neoprene.

Standard advanced safety features on the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV include the brand’s Attention Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Parking Package with reverse camera and Speed Limit Assist.

Additional driving assistance systems included in the Assistance Package are the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Lane Keeping Assist from speeds above 60 km/h, and Blind Spot Assist.
The optional Driving Assistance Plus Package includes Intersection start-off function, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, PRE-SAFE PLUS, and PRE-SAFE Impulse Side.

Mercedes-AMG 53 4MATIC+ EQE SUV

Two AMG Versions of the EQE SUV

Together with the unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, two AMG versions of the EV were also introduced – the Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4MATIC SUV and the Mercedes-AMG 53 4MATIC+ EQE SUV.

The Mercedes-AMG 43 4MATIC EQE SUV makes 476 hp and 858 Nm and gets the brand’s fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC AWD system. The AMG 43 does 0-100 in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h.

Mercedes-AMG 53 4MATIC+ EQE SUV

In its most extreme form, the EQE SUV makes 687 hp and 1000 Nm as the Mercedes-AMG 53 4MATIC+ EQE SUV (with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package). Without the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, the AMG 53 4MATIC+ makes 626 hp and 950 Nm which is still plenty.

With power sent to all wheels via the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable AWD system, the AMG 53 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h (with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package).

The battery and charging capabilities for the AMG 43 and AMG 53 EQE SUV are carried over from the ‘normal’ EQE SUV. Rear axle steering is standard for both AMG versions but optional on the regular versions.
