The latest to showcase its electric vehicle (EV) in Malaysia is Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) with the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance. Only a preview, for the time being, VPCM has taken the opportunity to showcase its EV offering at Volkswagen Fest 2022 at Sentul Depot.

Volkswagen’s electric lineup is known as the ID. family and its members include the ID.3, ID.5, and ID.6. The Volkswagen ID.4 debuted in September 2020 and is the brand’s second fully electric car after the ID.3. It features an SUV body style and size-wise, the VW ID.4 measures close to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, being 4,584 mm long, 1,852 mm wide, and 1,636 mm tall with a 2,765 mm wheelbase.

There are several versions of the Volkswagen ID.4 including the ID.4 Pure, ID.4 Pro, ID.4 Pure Performance, ID.4 Pro 4Motion, and ID.4 GTX. The version that is previewed at the Volkswagen Fest 2022 is the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance which gets a 77-kWh battery pack and is rear-wheel-drive.

Turning the rear wheels is a 204 hp/310 Nm electric motor that accelerates the car from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. The top speed of the ID.4 is 160 km/h. Just so you know, the hottest version of the ID.4 is the ID.4 GTX which features a 295 hp dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.

As for charging, the Volkswagen ID.4 can handle either up to 11-kW AC charging or up to 125-kW DC Fast charging. Volkswagen says that with 125-kW DC fast charging, the ID.4 can regain 320 km of range in just 30 minutes.

Boasting a drag coefficient of 0.28, the ID.4’s exterior design is inspired by nature. Standard on the “base” ID.4 are headlights that are almost completely equipped with LEDs and full-LED taillights. The “Pro Performance” and higher-tier variants come with interactive “IQ.Light” LED matrix headlights that welcome drivers with swiveling lens modules and generate an intelligently controlled main beam. The “IQ.Light” LED headlights are paired with 3D LED taillight clusters. The wheels on the ID.4 Pro are 21 inches in size.

Thanks to Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) architecture, the ID.4 boasts a spacious cabin. Priority is given to the passengers and Volkswagen says the room is comparable to SUVs of a higher segment.
