Touch ‘n Go RFID users can now refuel at 88 Shell stations nationwide thanks to the joint effort between Touch ‘n Go Group and Shell Malaysia. Launched today, Touch ‘n Go Group and Shell Malaysia expect to expand the number of RFID-enabled Shell stations up to 200 by the end of 2022.
Touch ‘n Go Group CEO, Effendy Shahul Hamid said, “We’re extremely pleased to have quickly been able to expand the RFID use case beyond road tolling. Customers can now make payments at Shell stations without requiring any interaction with an app on their mobile phones or engaging with a point-of-sale system as payment is made via Touch ‘n Go eWallet linked to the user’s Touch ‘n Go RFID.”
He also adds, “We are fortunate to have found a like-minded partner in Shell, who aligns with our ambition to provide customers with cashless, contactless driving experience, and is helping us pave the way towards delivering more innovative offerings for both sets of our customers.
“The combination of an RFID and eWallet infrastructure allows us to expand its use case beyond tolling. As we’ve shown today, fuelling is an additional use case, and we will be expanding the RFID use case into more areas as we go on.”
Previously only enabled at 35 shell stations in Malaysia, the RFID payment system at shell stations does not require users to whip out their phones to fill up. In order to utilise the new payment system, customers will need a Touch ‘n Go RFID tag that is linked to their Touch ‘n go eWallet account, and complete the one-time registration and activation process through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet mobile app.
Upon successful activation, customers simply need to park their vehicles at the RFID-designated fueling bays. Vehicles are detected within seconds, and payment will be auto-debited from the customer’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet. In case you’re wondering how to fill up a full tank of petrol, any unutilised amount will be immediately refunded to the customer’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet accounts.
Shell Malaysia and Singapore Mobility General Manager, Seow Lee Ming says, “In line with our commitment to making customers’ daily journeys more seamless through innovative offerings, we embarked on this partnership with Touch ‘n Go to develop a new payment method that provides cashless convenience, using RFID technology, without the hassle of a mobile app. We also went the extra mile to integrate Touch ‘n Go RFID with our loyalty partner BonusLink, allowing customers to earn loyalty points easily with each fuel purchase.
“Over the last year, we have received positive response from over 10,000 pilot users, and have been working closely with Touch ‘n Go to continuously optimise the technology to ensure a truly hassle-free payment experience. We are confident that this collaboration with Touch ‘n Go will further enhance our customer experience at Shell.”
Shell Malaysia and Touch ‘n Go will be rewarding the first 25,000 customers who utilise the RFID refuelling function with a RM10 cashback from August 10 to September 16, 2022. All customers need to do is to top-up a minimum of RM50 using the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app. Do note that only first-time customers are eligible for this cashback reward from Touch ‘n Go and Shell Malaysia.
