The sixth-generation 2022 Honda CR-V is due to make its global debut in the coming months. Ahead of its reveal, however, the Japanese carmaker has now published a couple of teaser photos showing off the new model’s “rugged and sophisticated design”.
Well… except that we’ve already seen the car in full thanks to a recent leak from the Chinese Government’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website. Awkward.
At least, the new teaser image does give us a closer look at the car’s design elements in more detail, including the headlights with a slim eyebrow-style daytime-running light, separated from the rest of the lighting fixture by a slim trim element that extends from the top of the grille.
The headlights and the mesh grille together form the marque’s latest iteration of the “Solid Wing Face” design language, first seen on the all-new Honda HR-V. The grille surround here is also finished in gloss black, but we presume that it’ll be variant specific, with this exact unit probably being a range-topping variant for the North American market.
The stylish bumper here should also be reserved for the specific variant, as the unit shown in the previous leak lacks the trapezoidal air intake trim, finished here in silver.
As for the rear, the taillights still feature the same L-shaped design as the current-gen CR-V, but now sports a thinner light signature and a less-pronounced protrusion at the bottom corner, with the design as a whole reminding us a little of the Volvo XC60.
The soft lighting signature on the horizontal section gets broken up into three L-shaped elements, and the entire fixture is also now slimmer and more angular, giving the rear fascia a little bit of extra aggression.
In addition to the new looks, the short press release says revealed that the all-new 2022 Honda CR-V will have a “more advanced hybrid system” that delivers a “sporty driving experience and more capability”.
Rumours online suggest that the C-segment SUV could borrow the new e:HEV hybrid powertrain from the Civic, with a 2.0 litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine and a pair of electric motors (one driving the wheels) to offer a total of 184 hp and 315 Nm of torque.
More information on the all-new next-gen Honda CR-V should be revealed shortly, ahead of its launch sometime in 2022. But for now, do you at least like how it looks? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
