Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), the sole distributor for Ford vehicles here in Malaysia, has just unveiled a new special-edition model to the Ranger XLT Plus, which adds some extra visual flare to the pick-up truck to hopefully tide us over until the launch of the all-new model here on our shores.
The special-edition model is priced at RM136,888 (on the road, without insurance, registration, and road tax), making it roughly RM6,000 more expensive than the standard XLT Plus model. It’s now available for booking, with display units scheduled to hit Ford showrooms nationwide starting 10 March 2022 – although those who want to get a first look can catch it at Queensbay Mall in Penang from 24-27 February.
For RM6,000, SDAC is essentially saving you the trouble of modifying the pickup yourself, as the special-edition includes some of the most popular visual mods among Ranger buyers these days. These include the Raptor-style FORD block letter front grille, black plastic fender flare claddings replete with fake bolts, and a tube-style sports bar round the back.
Inside, the Ford Ranger XLT Plus Special Edition model also comes with illuminated door sill scuff plates, as well as a forward-facing HD dash cam with built-in light polariser (for clearer footage), a 32 GB MicroSD memory card, and smartphone connectivity via the companion app.

Otherwise, the rest of the equipment list and spec sheet is identical to the standard Ranger XLT Plus. Motivation is still provided by the same 2.0 litre EcoBlue turbodiesel four-pot engine, good for 180 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Standard features shared between the standard and special edition model include the LED headlights, side steps, Easy Lift tailgate, an eight-inch touchscreen SYNC 3 infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, rear-view reverse camera, leather upholstery, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system.
The new Ford Ranger XLT Plus Special Edition will be offered in five colour options – Absolute Black, Aluminium Metallic, Arctic White, Lightning Blue, and Meteor Grey. As announced early last year, all Ranger pick-up trucks are now covered by Ford’s new five-year/160,000 km manufacturer’s warranty.
