Volvo Car Malaysia broke its own sales record in 2021 with 2,229 cars sold

Volvo Car Malaysia has announced its sales figures for 2021, of which it sold a total of 2,229 units. The figure represents a 14.3% increase over the previous year, and also marks the sixth consecutive year of sales growth for the marque here in Malaysia.

The sales performance also sets a new record for the highest sales performance since the establishment of Volvo Car Malaysia, and is further boosted by the milestone of the highest sales performance per month on record, with 524 units sold in December 2021 alone.

The company says that almost 73% of all new Volvo cars sold in Malaysia were Recharge (electrified) models.

“We are proud of our record-breaking achievements in 2021. Despite a challenging year, we have gained customers’ confidence in providing them with the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way,” said Volvo Car Malaysia Managing Director, Charles Frump.

“The collective efforts of our dealers and staff have laid the groundwork for an electrifying 2022, encouraging us to charge towards our goal of becoming a fully electric car company by 2030,” Frump added.

Globally, Volvo Cars sales also grew by 5.6% to 698,693 cars in the full year 2021. Sales of its Recharge models grew by 63.9% in 2021 compared to the previous year, which continues to demonstrate the popularity of Volvo’s line-up of electrified cars with a fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Recharge cars made up 27% of the company’s total sales volume in 2021, and almost 40% of all new Volvo cars sold in December were Recharge models, while fully electric cars made up 7.4%.
