Bentley and Akrapovič creates new titanium exhaust for Continental GT Speed

Bentley has collaborated with Akrapovic to offer a new lightweight titanium exhaust for the Continental GT Speed and the GT Speed Convertible.

The titanium exhaust is the result of extensive development and testing as it was even fitted onto the record-breaking Pikes Peak Continental GT. The race car holds the 2019 Production Car record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The new sports exhaust was designed to intensify the deep tones of Bentley’s iconic W12 engine, which is the most advanced 12-cylinder engine in the world.

As it is made of titanium at Akrapovič’s in-house titanium foundry, it’s seven kilograms lighter than the standard muffler. Akrapovič says it’s stronger and lighter with even more optimised flow compared to the standard muffler.

Like most modern exhaust systems, the exhaust note can change depending on the drive mode. In Sport mode, the muffler puts out a high-frequency sound with distinctive burbles when on overrun. This is done through a valve mounted on each rear muffler, operated by a dedicated electronic control unit.

The muffler will also improve throttle response thanks to optimised back pressure, which also improves the turbocharged W12 engine’s performance.

The surface of the muffler has been sandblasted and coated for a smooth finish. The coating also allows the matte titanium muffler to be scratch-resistant.
