Mitsubishi Indonesia has unveiled a new special edition for the Xpander and Xpander Cross in Indonesia called the Rockford Fosgate Black Edition, made in conjunction with American automotive audio gear company Rockford Fosgate (RF).

The RF Black Edition models are based on the Sport and Premium variant of the Xpander and Xpander Cross respectively, and features several variant-exclusive aesthetic trims, and of course, equipped with RF audio equipment from the factory.

As the name suggests, the RF Black Edition models are decked out in black colour styling cues. On the Xpander, these include the entire Dynamic Shield front fascia, front grille, skid plates, side mirrors, rear ‘X’ trim piece, and the 16-inch alloys.

The Xpander Cross meanwhile has the Dynamic Shield and grille accents, as well as the side rockers finished in a dark chrome colour, though everything else is blacked out like the Xpander RF Black Edition. The 17-inch wheels are standard fitment, along with the blacked-out roof rails. Of course, both models also get a variant-exclusive emblem at the back.

Moving onto the inside, both the RF Black Edition models get an all-black upholstery – leather on the Xpander Cross, and fabric on the Xpander. Naturally, the special edition also gets a set of Rockford Fosgate audio system, consisting of a upgraded digital signal processor (DSP), subwoofer, and six speakers.

How does the Mitsubishi Xpander compare against the Honda BR-V and Toyota Rush?

The new audio system is paired to a new seven-inch touchscreen head unit supplied by RF, which offers smartphone mirroring capabilities and a 360-degree surround view monitor on the Xpander Cross (only reverse camera for the Xpander).

Both special edition models are unchanged mechanically. Underneath the bonnet of both the Xpander and Xpander Cross RF Black Edition is the same 1.5-litre MIVEC naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine from before, capable of sending 105 hp and 141 Nm of torque to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual (Xpander only).

The Mitsubishi Xpander RF Black Edition starts at RP273.9 million (~RM79k), and is available in either Jet Black Mica or Quartz White Pearl. Meanwhile, the Xpander Cross RF Black Edition is priced a little higher at RP312.65 million (~RM90k), and swaps out the black exterior hue for a Graphite Grey Metallic shade.
