Thai brings new meaning to cashless payment – buys a Lambo, with crypto

A Thai national has set a new benchmark in cashless payment with the purchase of an all-new Lamborghini via cryptocurrency.

According to a release by Zipmex, Jo Chirawat used Zipmex’s mobile app to put a downpayment with Bitcoin on a 2021 Huracán EVO RWD at Renazzo Motor Co. Ltd. in Bangkok, Thailand.

The balance of the THB20 million car is expected to be paid in Bitcoin as well. As of trading today, one Bitcoin is valued at THB1.7 million. The transaction with Zipmex is said to be the first recorded in Asia.

Zipmex is one of the leading digital assets exchange platforms in South East Asia and the fastest growing with a focus on providing retail and institutional investors with the tools and convenience to trade digital assets securely. It currently has operations in Singapore, Thailand, Australia and Indonesia.

The partnership between Zipmex and Renazzo Motor allows the usage of Bitcoin (BTC), Tether USD (USDT), and Zipmex Token (ZMT). The ability to accept cryptocurrencies also expands potential in untapped customer segments for the supercar distributor.

As for the Lamborghini Huracán EVO RWD, the 5.2-litre V10 engine delivers 610 hp at 8,000 rpm and 560 Nm of torque. Drive to the rear wheels is via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and sends the Huracan EVO from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, taking just another six seconds to reach 200 km/h.

Renazzo Motor has been the official sole importer, dealer and after-sales service provider for Lamborghini automobiles in Thailand since 2018. Meanwhile, in Malaysia, recently-appointed SunAgata Supercars is handling all sales and after-sales aspects of the brand.
