It is certainly refreshing to see the launch of a sporty turbocharged hatchback. With the return of Suzuki to Malaysia, the event felt like two celebrations in one!
Suzuki, through Naza Eastern Motors, has just started the distribution of new-generation Suzuki vehicles in Malaysia. Their first product is the enthusiasts’ favourite- the Suzuki Swift Sport. It is priced at RM139,900 on the road, without insurance and inclusive of a three-year/100,000 km warranty.
The Suzuki Swift Sport needs no introduction, as Suzuki basically turns the basic and eco-car Swift into a more potent, more fun-to-drive hatchback. The Suzuki Swift Sport gets exclusive bumpers, an all-around bodykit with weave-pattern, dual exhaust outlets, 16-inch wheels and retuned suspension and braking system.
Inside, two semi-bucket sport seats hug the front occupants. Plenty of red and black are used in the interior, including a large red-faced tachometer.
Under the compact bonnet lies a new 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Outputs of 140 hp and 230 Nm of torque might not sound much, but with just a kerb weight of 990 kg, the powertrain catapults the Swift Sport from standstill to 100 km/h in just 8 seconds.
