Video: Subaru Forester GT Lite Edition – 5 Things

Remember the sporty-looking Subaru Forester GT Edition? Well, say you’re a fan of the looks, but don’t necessarily feel like splashing the extra cash on the EyeSight advanced driver assistance features – what can you do without resorting to third-party aftermarket solutions? Well, Subaru has a new answer for you, and that’s the new Forester GT Lite Edition.

Launched approximately eight months after the full-fat GT Edition, the Forester GT Lite is essentially the entry-level 2.0i-L variant, fitted with the same GT Edition body kit – which includes the GT Edition front and rear bumpers, lip extension, side skirts, and roof spoiler.

This means that the Forester GT Lite also gets all the same features as the entry-level variant, but the great news is that it is still rather well-equipped! As standard, the new Subaru Forester GT Lite Edition comes with LED headlights (without auto-leveliser) and daytime-running lights, LED tail lights, halogen front fog lamps (LED rears), and 17-inch “Snowflake” wheels – no GT Edition-exclusive items here.

Inside, the GT Lite Edition gets the same eight-way powered front seats, full leather upholstery, automatic climate control, as well as the same eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s shared across the entire Subaru Forester line-up here in Malaysia – unfortunately, you won’t get the updated unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, like the one you see on the GT Edition.

As this is based on the entry-level 2.0i-L variant, the Forester GT Lite Edition also doesn’t get the Subaru EyeSight advanced driver assistance features. Standard safety kit include seven airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, a 360-degree suround view monitor, as well as electronic parking brake with auto hold.

Also available are the additional driveline controls, such as hill descent control, active torque vectoring, as well as X-mode, which allows the car to adapt its power output to tricky driving conditions including dirt and snow.

Underneath the hood, the Subaru Forester GT Lite Edition is equipped with the same powertrain found in all other Forester variants here in Malaysia, which is a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine, good for 156 hp and 196 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via the Lineartronic CVT gearbox and Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

The Subaru Forester GT Lite Edition is priced at RM163,788 on the road, without insurance, and inclusive of the sales tax exemptions, which is a . For a more detailed rundown of all the specifications of the new Forester variant, do check out our launch coverage here.
