BMW previews the CKD X7 xDrive40i, estimated pricing of RM708k

Launched alongside the all-new BMW 430i M Sport is the locally-assembled (CKD) BMW X7, the full-sized seven-seater Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) positioned above the X5.

Priced over RM153k lesser at an estimated RM708,000 with the sales tax exemption, the CKD BMW X7 xDrive40i now joins other CKD BMW models that comprised 87% of the group’s total 2020 sales. The addition of the X7 means all SAV models in the X family are now locally-assembled in Kulim, Kedah.

As for the main specifications and features, the CKD BMW X7 xDrive40i does not differ from the CBU variant launched in 2019. The colour palette sees a reduction from seven to five- Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey, Phytonic Blue, Mineral White and the new Manhattan Metallic.

EXTERIOR

The Design Pure Excellence line continues in the CKD model. The window surrounds, air breather and ‘hockey stick’ door mouldings are in bright chrome, with front and rear bumper underbody protection in stainless steel styling. Key features in the BMW X7 xDrive40i includes:

Inside, the features continue to remain as similarly nicely equipped as the fully imported model. There are three interior schemes with Vernasca leather paired with their respective exterior colours.

The display unit in Phytonic Blue is paired with all-black interior

All three rows get to control their own air-conditioning preference with the automatic five-zone control system. High-gloss brown wood trim continues to decorate the interior with other key features below:

  • BMW Live Cockpit Professional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and similarly sized infotainment system
  • Front active seat ventilation

The X7 in the xDrive40i guise is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder petrol engine pushing out 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Century sprint takes 6.1 seconds while the top speed is capped at 245 km/h.

A new addition into the CKD model is the fitment of the Integral Active Steering that marginally turns the rear wheels in the opposite or same direction as the front wheels for either better low-speed agility or high-speed comfort and stability.

An 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, xDrive all-wheel drive and air suspension with active roll stabilisation are standard items. Like the imported variant, ride comfort is further enhanced by the Dynamic Damper Control system, which can process data from the navigation system and front camera.

Also carried over are the Driving Assistance Professional features like the Active cruise control with Stop & Go, steering and lane control assistant, a head-up display, and Reversing Assist.
