Good news – Lotus Karz has brought Lotus “back to Malaysia”!

There’s been a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Lotus brand in Malaysia, ever since DRB-Hicom sold-off its ownership of the UK-based sportscar manufacturer to Geely back in 2017.

Not much has been told of the brand’s fate in Malaysia, with the demise of the Lotus flagship showroom along Damansara-Puchong highway (LDP) further fuelling speculation. You’d be surprised to find out, however, that Lotus has always been under the watchful care of Toycarz Garage all these while!

While many of us have been unaware of its existence, Toycarz Garage is no stranger to the local Lotus community. With a burning passion for Colin Chapman’s light and pure sports cars, the company started out more than a decade ago as a service centre for Lotus, and in 2018 obtained the sole distributorship for Lotus cars in Malaysia.

Operating out of their base in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam since 2013, Toycarz’s operation in Malaysia has grown from strength to strength stronger with multiple events already planned for 2021.

These include a four-tiered Lotus Driving Academy with syllabus and coaches accredited by Lotus UK, as well as the introduction of the officially-sanctioned Lotus Cup race in Malaysia!

In fact, the team at Toycarz has also been hard at work to completely revamp their space into a showroom that befits the brand’s stature and workshop to better cater for the local Lotus enthusiasts. The service centre now consists of eight fully-equipped bays, with various services – from pre-purchase inspection to full restorations with genuine Lotus parts – being offered to their customers.

As for the cars, step into what is now the official Lotus Malaysia showroom and you’ll see everything ranging from certified pre-owned models to the latest and greatest from Hethel, UK, such as the Lotus Exige 430 Cup and Elise 250 Cup.

The pair of cup cars retail for RM700,000 and RM350,000 respectively, both excluding duties and other associated costs. Fortunately, Toycarz also offers a three-year storage plan to keep them at a secure facility in Langkawi, where you’ll have free access to your cars in any part of Malaysia for 90 days a year during this time.

A Lotus Malaysia representative also told us that the fully-electric Evija is available for booking here in Malaysia, along with a “big surprise” coming in February this year. So for the avid driving enthusiasts here, you know where to look the next time you get your bonus!
