Video: 2020 Toyota Yaris facelift, 5 Things

Alongside the 2020 Toyota Vios facelift, UMW Toyota has also given the Toyota Yaris a quick refresh to keep up with its ever-increasing number of competitors. Avaialble in three variants, the 2020 Toyota Yaris line-up now starts at RM71k for the entry-level 1.5 J variant.

Similar to the Vios, the Yaris facelift also receives a new reworked front end, alongside the new and sleeker fog lamp housings, and the new triple-bezel LED headlights which are standard across the board. To differentiate itself from the sedan, the Yaris receives a honeycomb mesh pattern on its grille, in contrast with the horizontal slats design on the Vios.

Aside from the front-end though, everything else is pretty-much unchanged from the outgoing model. You still get the same bumper design, and the same taillight design – halogen bulbs for the 1.5 J, and LED for 1.5 E and 1.5 G. The new Toyota Yaris also rides on 15-inch wheels for the entry-level model, and 16-inch items on the other two higher variants.

What’s also mostly unchanged is the interior, with the main update being the new seven-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the 1.5 E and 1.5 G variants, alongside an Optitron analogue instrument cluster. Just as before, the Yaris only gets fabric seats across the board, with no paddle shifters available.

The biggest addition to this year’s update is the inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) advance safety systems, which includes systems such as pre-collision system, lane departure alert, blind-spot monitor, and rear-cross traffic alert.

Powering the 2020 Toyota Yaris facelift is the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder Dual VVT-i engine as before, which makes 107 hp and 140 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed Shiftmatic CVT gearbox.
