This Alfa Romeo GT is the most beautiful electric car you’ll see this year

It’s never easy to bridge the gap between old and new, especially when it comes to integrating an old art form and new technology in an automobile. Look at Tesla and all their self-driving woes despite all its financial might, and you’d get the idea.

Totem Automobili however has risen to the occasion with this incredibly unique and beautiful, all-electric Alfa Romeo GT electric. As cliché as it sounds, it is simply a work of art.

Starting with the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA from the 1960s and 70s, only 10% of the original car’s chassis remains. Solely retaining the GTA’s original silhouette, its new, fully carbon fibre body shell only weighs 95 kg but that’s not what this car is all about. As is always the case, the devil is in the details.

On that note, there is nothing that comes close to what 18 Italian artisans have created over 6,000 hours. Everything from the LED headlamps, the intricate carbon fibre grille, the side mirrors down to the exterior door handles of the Alfa Romeo GTA just aches for a second look and closer observation. I, in particular, can’t get over how beautiful the exterior door switch is, finished with the knurlings of a luxury watch.

The cabin is another story altogether. There’s probably a ritual to perform before you climb on board. It feels almost too sacred, to delicate for a human body. Where do we even begin?

There’s something about the GTA’s interior that just screams Pagani albeit a much more tone down version of it. There are few things you’d want to take note of – like the Momo steering, custom gear knob, and pedals with “+” and “-” motifs – cause frankly they’re the most minimalist yet beautiful pieces we have ever seen put into a car.

The interior is so customisable to a point that Totem Automobili will even request for the customer’s height, hand, foot, and even hip sizes! This is to ensure that every electric GT is tailored specifically to that customer.

“Seats are molded according to your body shape, the position and size of the car’s pedals are designed and built in line with your shoe size, steering wheel is positioned to fit the measure of your shoulders,” said Totem Automobili.

Powering the electric GT is an electric motor, paired to a sequential gearbox, with 518 hp and 980 Nm. 0 to 100 km/h is a breeze, completed in just 3.4 seconds. Top speed is rated at 245 km/h but that’s not all. It even comes with a launch control feature and will steadily provide up to 360 km of pure electric power courtesy of its 50 kWh battery.
