Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has finally launched the new Hyundai Kona we tested recently in Malaysia with three variants available – 2.0, 2.0 Active, and 1.6 Turbo. Prices start from RM123,888 for the 2.0, RM 138,888 for the 2.0 Active, and finally RM151,888 for the 1.6 Turbo.
To sweeten the deal, HSDM is offering a “special introductory price” of RM115,888 for the 2.0, RM130,888 for the 2.0 Active, and RM143,888 for the 1.6 Turbo. You and I both know why.

2.0 and 2.0 Active

EXTERIOR
Standard across the board are items such as the daytime running lights, automatic headlamps, keyless entry, and auto-folding side mirrors. In the base model 2.0, you get halogen projector headlamps, bulb type tail lights, only rear fog lamps and 17-inch wheels with 215/55/R17 tyres. In the 1.6 Turbo model, it stands out from the rest of the variants with a dual-tone exterior and roof rack.

INTERIOR
Items like the 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 speakers, and a multi-function steering wheel are standard across the board. All three variants also get an automatic headlamp feature, a tyre pressure monitoring system, two USB ports, reverse camera, and cruise control. In the Standard variant, the Kona comes with fabric upholstery and a smaller 3.5-inch TFT LCD multi-infomation display while the 2.0 Active is finished with a mix of leather and fabric.
Specific in the 1.6 Turbo variant are features like auto high beam, auto stop-start, a wireless charging pad, electronic chromatic rear view mirror and full leather upholstery. As for boot space, the Kona can gobble up to 361 litres of cargo.

SAFETY & DRIVER ASSISTANCE
All variants are equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control, hill-start assist, hill descent control and two ISOFIX child seat points. Only the 1.6 Turbo variant gets front parking sensors in addition to the rear sensors in the 2.0 variants. The 2.0 Active and 1.6 Turbo variants will get rear cross traffic alert and a blind spot monitor.
