Mazda CX-8 2.2L High AWD review

When it comes to people carrying in absolute convenience and comfort, there’s no denying the practicality of an MPV such as the Toyota brothers or Honda’s Odyssey for example. What if you needed a 6- or 7-seater but refuse to conform to social norms? The AWD Mazda CX-8 we reviewed may offer a solution.

The Mazda SUV launched last year is one such example. There are 6- and 7 seater options of the CX-8 but the one you’d want to look at is the MID PLUS variant with a centre aisle to access the 3rd row from the 2nd for the closest MPV experience in an SUV.

There are four different variants of the Mazda CX-8 with prices starting from RM173k to RM206k, down from RM179k to RM217k, following price revisions after the recent Sales Tax Exemption announcement.

Two engine options are available – a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine making 192 hp and 258 Nm for the front-wheel drive models, along with a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D engine making 188 hp and 420 Nm in the Mazda CX-8 AWD we reviewed. Both engines are paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox with manual shift mode.
