Sime Darby Auto Connexion has announced that the new Ford Ranger FX4 will make its local debut on the 3rd of June via a video livestream on both YouTube and Facebook Live. The updated FX4 model was first launched in November last year in Australia and New Zealand, though later introduced in Thailand as an extension to the XLT variant.
The FX4 dresses up the facelifted Ford Ranger with a whole swath of stealthy black cosmetic upgrades. Up front, the headlights are darkened, flanking the variant-exclusive mesh-styled grille, finished in Ebony Black.
The front and rear bumper on the FX4 also gets the blacked-out treatment, along with the wing mirror cover and door handles. The Ranger FX4 rides on a new 18-inch Ebony Black alloy wheels, while a ‘3D Effect’ Ranger badging rounds up the exterior aesthetic treatments.
Inside, the Ranger FX4 gets a black leather upholstery, finished with red accent stitching. Based on international market specifications, the FX4 should come equipped with the eight-inch SYNC 3 infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, though SDAC might swap it out for an Android-based headunit, as seen on the XLT Special Edition.
If there are no additional changes though, expect to see other standard equipment such as six speakers, 4.2-inch multi-info display in the instrument cluster, six-way power adjustable driver seats, and four-way power adjustable front passenger seat.
The Australian Ranger FX4 gets the 2.0-litre bi-turbo engine as seen on the WildTrak 4×4 and Raptor, but our local-spec FX4 will most likely be equipped with the 2.2-litre TDCI turbodiesel unit from the XLT, managing 160 hp and 385 Nm of torque, paired to a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox.
To celebrate the launch of the new variant, SDAC-Ford will be rewarding the first 150 owners with additional accessories worth RM5,398, including a matte-black sports bar, executive tinting, as well as an in-built digital video recorder.
