New generation Mercedes-Benz GLA to be unveiled digitally in December

You know you are living in the digital age when new cars are launched online, which is logical given the target customer of the new generation Mercedes-Benz GLA. The original SUV model of the compact class (there’s now the more upright GLB) will premiere on the Mercedes me communications platform on 11th December, 2.00pm CET (Central Europen Time) or 9.00pm local time.

With the majority of the second-generation compact class models already launched, there shouldn’t be many surprises left in terms of powertrain or technology, leaving only the final styling of the new GLA to be unveiled.

Judging from the official camouflaged teasers released by Mercedes-Benz, the GLA is expected to retain its sporty, low slung crossover look while incorporating new design details of the compact class models. It should come with a more spacious interior as well as the latest version of the MBUX interface.

We expect the GLA to be made available in 200 and 250 variants initially; the former being a 163 hp and 250 Nm 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder driving the front wheels, while the latter a 224 hp and 350Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. It will likely be joined later on by the GLA 35 and 45 with proper AMG muscle power.
