Sunway Smart Parking is here to solve your parking woes!

The days of having to search high and low for that RM1 note will soon be over, as Sunway has just introduced their cashless and ticket-less smart parking system at a preview at Sunway Pyramid.

The smart parking system will be deployed in Sunway City, which comprises of Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Hotels and Menara Sunway. Currently in operation for season pass holders, the system is expected to be rolled out to the public in the first quarter of 2020.

Here’s how it works. First, drivers will need to register their license plate number through the Sunway Parking portal. Once your license plate is linked to a participating e-wallet, the license plate recognition system will allow for seamless entry and exit to the parking lot.

Not a fan of e-wallets? There is also an automatic payment kiosk at the car park to enable Touch ‘n Go and cash payments on the spot. A Sunway spokesperson said that for the time being, the existing cash and Touch ‘n Go payment systems will not be eliminated to allow for a smooth transition to the smart parking system.

To facilitate the adoption of the cashless system, Sunway is also offering a one-time free parking when the system is open to the public for shoppers who register their cars during the pre-registration period.

As for the non-standard registration plate fonts that we have here locally, Sunway says that the machine learning built into the license plate recognition system will identify the various styles over time.

For the time being, drivers of cars with unreadable plates will need to look for the photo of their license plates at the automatic payment kiosk or help desk to make payment.

Sunway’s electronic payment partners include GrabPay, Boost, WeChat Pay, Alipay, Touch N’ Go Digital, and Maybank QR, alongside credit partners MasterCard, Visa, American Express, JCB, UnionPay, and MyDebit.

Aside from simplifying the parking experience for its shoppers, Sunway says that the smart parking system also helps reduce the carbon footprint of all shoppers by reducing paper waste.
