Gallery: G30 BMW 530e M Sport, dressed to impress

They say good things come to those who wait, and if you’ve been contemplating on buying the G30 BMW 530e, now is just about the right time because the 530e is now dressed in a dashing M Sport trim, to impress.

Previously reserved only for the 530i, the M Sport kit consists of a couple of obligatory M badges, sportier front and rear bumpers, side skirts, trapezoidal tailpipes, and a set of 19-inch 664M wheels.

However, unlike the 530i M Sport, the wheels on the 530e M Sport are finished in gloss black to match the black Shadowline trim on the window surrounds and on the fender vents.

Peeking through those blacked-out alloys are the M Sport brakes with blue painted calipers, and although the 530e M Sport does not feature a sunroof like on the 530i M Sport, it makes up for it with a pair of Adaptive LED headlamps.

The M Sport treatment for the interior includes a chunky M steering wheel (with shift paddles, of course), sporty M pedals, illuminated M door sills, and ‘Aluminium Rhombicle’ trim inserts.

Underneath it all is the same 530e powertrain which combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol mill and an electric motor, generating a total of 252 hp and 420 Nm of torque.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via the excellent ZF 8-speed automatic, enabling the 530e M Sport to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, onward to a top speed of 235 km/h.

Despite the more athletic appearance, the 530e M Sport still drives like the non-M Sport variant. The extra heft from the additional hybrid thingamajig can be felt if you’re being over enthusiastic on squiggly tarmac, but being a BMW it’s willing to play along with your childish antics.

And when you’re done, it will cruise calmly on the highway with minimal fuss. Not to mention, it’s also able to run stealthily in full electric mode for up to 40 km with speeds up to 140 km/h.

Obviously those extra M Sport goodies come at a price, but at RM338,800, it’s just RM10k more than the previous lesser-equipped 530e Sport, and the 530e M Sport still undercuts its non-hybrid sibling the 530i M Sport by RM34k.

As usual, you’ll get 5-years unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service, 2-years tyre warranty, BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline, BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile App, as well as the BMW White Card membership.

The 530e M Sport may not be the sweetest G30 to drive, but considering the amount of kit and horses it carries, it is currently the best value for money among the rest of the G30 range.
