Proton achieves 36% sales growth, only top-5 brand with double digit gains



Continuing their upward trajectory in sales growth, Proton has registered a total of 9,127 units of vehicle in August. Over a period of contracting Total Industry Value (TIV), Proton has managed to achieve a 17.6% share in August and and 15.3% overall market share for year thus far, becoming the only top-5 brand to achieve a double digit sales growth of 36%, year on year. 

According to Proton’s estimates, they are well on track to surpass their 2018 overall sales figure of 64,744 units before the end of September, with total sales figure already standing at 61,396 units at the end of August.

Bookings for the recently released 2019 Proton Saga has also exceeded 10,000 units, where over 1,000 units came from their online booking platform where customers can book a unit for just RM9.99. Due to its popularity, Proton has decided to extend online booking till the 17th of September.

Proton’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Li Chunrong said “Proton is thankful for the response our customers have given to our range of offerings. The Company has posted the best sales growth for any top-5 brand this year and although Malaysia’s TIV has shrunk by 5.8%, our 36% growth in sales shows we are on the right track. With initiatives like the opening of additional 3S/4S outlets and improvements to customer service and product quality set to continue this year, we are confident of being able to close-out 2019 strongly,”

Dr. Li Chunrong also added that bookings for the 2019 Proton Saga has exceeded that of the Proton X70, and customers are particularly attracted to the revised styling, upgraded components and the new touchscreen infotainment system offered by the updated 2019 Proton Saga.
