Would you take this BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe over a Mercedes-Benz CLA?

BMW will soon debut their first-ever BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, a compact premium sedan that is aimed squarely as the highly successful Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3.

The company released a single image teaser earlier in the year and is expected to reveal the car in full at the upcoming 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show (LA Auto Show) in November. However, BMW has quietly released a set of camouflage photos of its new compact sedan ahead of its debut.

Pictured here is most likely the fully kitted out M Sport or possibly the M Performance variant as denoted by its aggressive body kit, sporty kidney grilles, M Sport blue-painted brake calipers and the dual exhaust outlets sandwiching the diffuser.

The new 2 Series Gran Coupe will share the same underpinnings as the all-new F40 BMW 1 Series. The UKL2 front-wheel-drive platform has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, 181 mm shorter than the G20 BMW 3 Series and 59 mm shy of the C118 CLA. However, BMW claims that the new architecture promises a spacious cabin for all passengers.

Powertrain options should mimic the 1 Series with three diesel options and two turbo petrol, the latter consisting of a 1.5-litre three-cylinder (118i) and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder for the M135i.

Other notable kits that can be seen on the camouflaged 2 Series Gran Coupe include a panoramic sunroof, adaptive LED headlamps and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
