First ever BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will take on the Mercedes-Benz CLA

BMW will be expanding its model line up with the first-ever BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe at the upcoming 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show happening in November. This will be the first time the 2 Series is available as a front-wheel driven four-door saloon.

The success of a four-door Gran Coupe has been well documented in upper segments like the 4 Series and 6 Series (even the 8 Series may get a GC variant). The 2 Series Gran Coupe expands BMW’s footprint in the compact segment with a practical but design-oriented model for urban consumers.

Styling to be inspired by its larger sibling, G20 3 Series

It will share the same underpinnings as the upcoming new BMW 1 Series which builds upon the brand’s front-wheel drive architecture. The company has also hinted that buyers can expect a degree of electrification in the new 2 Series Gran Coupe.

When launched, the 2 Series Gran Coupe will go up against the likes of Mercedes-Benz CLA and BMW will need to bring out the big guns to hold its ground against the sleek and particularly high tech CLA. The car will make its global debut in November 2019 with a subsequent market launch scheduled for 2020.
