Just when you thought the Nissan 370Z is dead, here’s the 50th Anniversary Edition

Like your pet who’s ailing and living out the last days of its life miserably, the 370Z isn’t any different and it’s time to just put it down.

But no. On a day when Nissan showed off its all-new Sylphy; one that’s relevant for this modern day and is as aerodynamic as the Nissan GT-R at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show in China, the guys in the US has this to show off.

It’s the 370Z “50th Anniversary Edition” that pays tribute to the Datsun 240Z of old that won multiple Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Championships.

The car will be available from 2020 onwards, in Sport, Sport Touring and NISMO trims.

It may be a dated car but the livery it wears is anything but as it mimics the original BRE race car – that appeared either in a white/red or silver/black combination.

50th Anniversary tributes are also found on the front fender, rear tailgate and on the special 19-inch alloy wheels with red accents.

Like every other tribute vehicle, the 370Z also gets 50th Anniversary denotations in almost every part of the cabin – from the mats, the gear level console and speedometer – but what looks really cool are the details embossed onto the suede seats – very tasteful I must say.

As for the technical nitty-gritty, the 370Z is still powered by the 3.7-litre V6 engine, fitted with lightweight arms, hollowed stabiliser bars and lighter but stiffer rear suspension. It also gets lightweight RAYS forged alloy wheels with 4-pot brakes in the front and a twin-pot pair at the back.
