Two Shell stations in Klang Valley recognised as “Green Buildings”

Shell Malaysia announced another milestone on its path to a greener and cleaner future by being the first in the retail fuel industry to be awarded the Green Building Index (GBI) Certification in Asia Pacific.

The GBI is Malaysia’s green rating tool to promote sustainable construction and buildings. Two its stations, one in Damansara Jaya and the other in Taman Connaught are now recognised as “green buildings”.

“When the new category for the Retail Fuel industry was introduced, we decided to rethink and retrofit smart solutions and design elements into our stations. We’re proud to achieve GBI Certification for these two stations within six months,” said Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd, Shairan Huzani Husain.

In achieving this, the stations were installed with solar Photo Voltaic (PV) systems to generate clean electricity, replacement of conventional bathroom fittings with waterless urinals and water saving taps, as well as monitoring systems that would alert the station of any consumption inconsistency to avoid unnecessary wastage of resources.

“With the production and usage of energy so intrinsically tied to the planet’s well-being, we are looking at increased pressure on our resources. Therefore, there is a critical need for industry players to get more innovative to balance both economics and ecology,” said Shairan.
