Tesla has just unveiled its latest Tesla Model Y, a seven-seater SUV that forms the electric carmaker’s four model line up. Packed with the most advanced tech from Tesla, the Model Y is positioned as a lower alternative to the Model X SUV.
There are four variants of the Model Y available – Standard, Long Range, Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive and Performance All-Wheel Drive. The Standard and Long Range models feature a rear-mounted electric motor that provides 370 km and 483 km of driving range respectively while the Dual-Motor and Performance variants have 450 km of pure electric driving range.

Opt for the Performance variant and it will take you from 0 to 96 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in 3.5 seconds while the Dual-Motor drops the acceleration time to 4.8 seconds. The rear-wheel driven Model Ys are pretty sprightly too, with sprint times of 5.9 and 5.5 seconds for the Standard and Long Range variants, respectively.
The Model Y is also compatible with Tesla’s new V3 Supercharger network that can give 120 km worth of driving range in under 5 minutes.

The Model Y takes design inspiration from the Model 3, with a quirky exterior and minimalistic interior dominated by a single 15-inch touchscreen interface. Unlike the Model X with its fancy gullwing doors, the Model Y features conventional frameless doors.
Tesla is pricing the Model Y between US$39,000 (RM159k) to US$60,000 (RM244k) and customers will have to place a US$2,500 deposit to secure an allocation.
