Angry but cute, the Peugeot 208’s petulant looks will make you feel fuzzy inside

Peugeot has just revealed the all-new 208 and safe to say, it has put us on the edge of our seats, tails wagging and aching to have one.

It’s hard to find a reason to dislike, internally at AutoBuzz.my, we’re all a fan of how it looks – all angry yet cute at the same time – it’s like your adorable girlfriend throwing an mini tantrum.

But take a step back and observe; perhaps even squint your eyes a little. Does it not like the a “buldgier”, more well-built Mazda 2 hatchback? There may not be a stark resemblance but it’s hard to unsee, now that we’ve mentioned.

The new 208, which is now 30 kg lighter, is only available with a 1.2-litre PureTech 3-cylinder engine with three different outputs – 75 hp, 100 hp and 130 hp. Transmission wise, there’s the five and 6-speed manual along with a 6-speed auto.

There’s also a 1.5-litre diesel engine but that’s irrelevant to us but perhaps the most interesting has to be the all-electric model called the e-208.

It makes 136 hp and 260 Nm from an electric motor and that alone is enough to get it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.1 seconds – a performance that rivals our local Volkswagen Golf TSI R-Line.

Inside the new 208 inherits Peugeot’s i-Cockpit interior concept, with the instrument cluster mounted higher than the steering wheel as one of its signature. The dazzling holographic 3D digital display is an optional extra.
