McLaren sold 43.9% more cars in 2018, another record breaking year

Since the company started selling its first road car in 2010, McLaren Automotive has recorded increased sales every year. 2018 was no exception, with sales up by 43.9 per cent over the previous year.

In 12 months, 4,806 new McLaren cars found its way to new owners worldwide. North America remains the largest single market for the British supercar maker, accounting over one-third of global sales. European sales rose 44.2 per cent but the biggest sales growth was seen in China with 122.5 per cent more cars sold compared to 2017. This strong sales growth was attributed to the introduction of the 570S Spider and 720S.

McLaren’s in-house customisation division, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) saw more customers ordering bespoke options to their cars leading to MSO order books to triple in 2018.

CEO Mike Flewitt said: “Record sales highlight what a momentous year 2018 was for McLaren Automotive when over 4,800 cars left our Production Centre. That compares to 1,650 in 2015 showing the remarkable expansion in just three years as we work to consolidate growth to 6,000 cars a year by the end of our Track25 business plan.”
