Perodua’s has announced that their upcoming SUV will be called the Perodua Aruz. The seven-seater SUV based on the Toyota Rush will be available in two variants and the second national carmaker is now accepting bookings for the new Aruz.

The company has also announced that the new Aruz is estimated to be priced at RM72,200 for the 1.5 X and RM77,200 for the 1.5 AV, both on-the-road without insurance (for Peninsular Malaysia). This place the Perodua SUV to be some RM20,000 more affordable than its sister car.

Starting with the oily bits, the Aruz is powered by a 2NR-VE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine paired to a four-speed automatic transmission with Eco Idle auto Start/Stop function. While output figures have yet to be announced, expect it to command the similar outputs of the Rush and Myvi of 105 hp and 136 Nm. Fuel consumption is rated to be 15.6 km per litre (6.4 L/100 km), earning the Aruz Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) status.

In terms of equipment, the base Aruz 1.5 X variant gets LED reflector headlamps, 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, fabric semi-bucket seats, digital air-con controls, anti-snatch hook, rear air vents, smart entry with start/stop, manual adjustable urethane steering wheel with audio control, built-in SmartTag reader, reverse camera and charging port in all rows.

Stepping up to the more expensive Aruz 1.5 AV it adds front fog lamps, roof rails, leather seats, leather-wrapped multifunctional steering wheel with telephony controls, touchscreen infotainment system with HDMI, Smart Link and navigation as well as an integrated Driving Video Recorder (dash camera).

As for safety, all variants of the Aruz gets six airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Start Assist (HAS) and ISOFIX mounting points as standard, earning the new SUV 5-Star ASEAN NCAP crash safety rating.

However, the range-topping 1.5 AV further adds an upgraded version of the Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) active safety suite, called ASA 2.0. Compared to the system available on the Myvi, ASA 2.0 adds pedestrian detection (up to 50 km/h) to the safety suite and increases the operational speeds of Pre-Collision Warning to 100 km/h and Pre-Collision Braking to 80 km/h. The Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control is also part of the ASA 2.0 package.

There will be five colours to choose from for the Perodua Aruz – Ivory White, Glittering Silver, Electric Blue, Granite Grey and a new Amazon Green. Every purchase of the SUV comes with a 5-Years/150,000 km warranty.
