Volvo Car Malaysia has just added a new entry-level variant to its popular seven-seater SUV model, the Volvo XC90 T5 AWD. The petrol powered XC90 T5 joins the existing plug-in hybrid T8 Twin Engine Inscription and Inscription Plus variants.
The decision to add this new variant to the XC90 line up comes after receiving feedback from customers who want more trim level and powertrain choices for the Swedish premium car maker’s best-selling large SUV.

Power now comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is found in the XC60 T5 that pushes out 254 hp and 350 Nm of twist. Drive is transferred to all four-wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Century sprint is completed in a respectable 7.9 seconds while top speed is capped at 215 km/h.
Despite being RM30k lesser than the T8 Inscription variant, you do not lose out too much in terms of kit. Items that were given a miss on the spec sheet include Nappa leather upholstery (standard leather), heads up display, Orrefors Crystal Gear Lever, panoramic sunroof, air suspension, Linear Walnut Décor Inlay (Brushed Aluminium), 360-degree surround view camera (reverse camera only), rear-air cond vents and four-zone automatic climate control (dual-zone).
The only two items that will truly be missed would be rear air vents and 360-degree camera. Other than that, the kit list checks out with 12.3 TFT LCD instrument cluster, 9.0-inch Portrait style Sensus touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 330W 10-speaker High-Performance Audio System, powered front seats with memory function and a powered tailgate. Unlike the T8 PHEV that comes with a tyre sealant kit, the T5 comes with a space saver spare wheel.
On the exterior bit, the XC90 T5 wears the Momentum package that dresses the car with a gloss black front grille, Momentum body kit, dual exhaust outlets and smaller 19-inch ten-spoke turbine style alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55 profile tyres. Forward illumination comes from a pair of high-performance LED headlamps with Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights and Active High Beam function.
The full suite of Volvo’s famed Intellisafe advanced driver assistance system were all retained in the entry-level XC90, complete with seven airbags, City Safety Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving, Lane Keeping Aid, Blind Spot Monitoring and more.
Customers of the Volvo XC90 T5 have the choice between five exterior shades: Chrystal White, Denim Blue, Maple Brown, Luminous Sand and Onyx Black to go with either Maroon Brown or Charcoal Black interior theme. Every purchase of a new Volvo vehicle comes with a 5-Years warranty.
