Type R Challenge Round 4 of 5: Civic Type R breaks Estoril FWD lap record

We’ve almost reached the end of the five leg Type R Challenge now; having seen the all-new FK8 Civic Type R obliterate lap records at the Magny Cours circuit, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the Silverstone circuit and now in Portugal.

At the Estoril circuit in Portugal, the Civic Type R set a new lap record for a front-wheel drive production car with a time of 2 minutes 01.84 seconds, with Honda WTCR driver, Tiago Monteiro behind the wheel.

“The FK8 Civic Type R is very stable, has very good braking efficiency and an amazing engine so it just feels like you are driving a race car. On the track, it’s easy to forget that it’s a proper road car but then you can drive it home,” said Tiago.

“The new Type R is a big evolution. I mean we’re talking about a totally different car in terms of design, aero, suspension, geometries, engine, but more than anything the feeling of driving the car,” he added.
