Affalterbach’s latest gems, the Mercedes-AMG 53 series will officially go on sale this August 2018. Three models, the CLS 53 4MATIC+, E 53 4MATIC+ Coupe and E 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet will be available for order in selected markets worldwide.
At the heart of the new 53-model series is a 3.0-litre bi-turbo in-line six mild-hybrid engine that gives a combined output of 435 hp and 520 Nm of torque. Drive is channelled to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Century sprint takes 4.5 seconds on the CLS while the E-Class duo will get there in 4.4 seconds. Its limited top speed can be increased 270 km/h with the AMG Driver’s Package installed.
The 53-models features an EQ Boost starter generator that gives an additional 21 hp and 250 Nm supplements the delay in torque when the turbochargers are building boost, resulting in greater engine response without “turbo lag”. Rest assured that the electrification of AMG models is to enhance the performance and driving dynamics of an AMG while at the same time reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Other highlights on the 53-series models include the AMG Ride Control+ airmatic suspension, twin-blade radiator grille in silver chrome, restyled rear apron, quad exhaust pipes, body colour boot lid, Nappa leather AMG performance steering wheel and an optional Widescreen Cockpit.
Prices for the CLS 53 4MATIC+ starts from €84,430 (RM389k) while the E 53 4MATIC+ Coupe and E 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet starts from €81,592 (RM376k) and €87,066 (RM401k) respectively. For the CLS 53, there is an exclusive limited run Edition 1 variant that adds Black Nappa leather with copper top stitching, Edition 1 lettering and an exclusive IWC analogue clock for €97,282 (RM448k).
The Mercedes-AMG range is properly represented here in Malaysia, from the compact A 45 all the way up to the fire-breathing G 63, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) even locally assembles some of the 43-series models. So prepare your chequebooks, because the 53-series will no doubt make an appearance here in Malaysia.
