Following the announcement of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to be zero-rated from 1 June 2018 by the newly installed Pakatan Harapan Government, Honda Malaysia is taking the initiative to support its customers by absorbing the 6% GST for customers who purchased selected Honda models from 18 to 31 May 2018; before the zero-rated GST comes into effect.
Models that qualify for the GST Bonus scheme include City (non-hybrid), Civic, HR-V and CR-V. Under this GST Bonus scheme, customers are also entitled to the on-going “Welcome Ramadhan Rewards” (cash bonus of RM 500 – RM 3,000 depending on model and variant).
Honda Malaysia will announce its new vehicle pricing like Volkswagen, BMW and MINI in due course. We expect fully-imported models (Civic Type R and Odyssey) to command the most drastic price change.
However, Tun Daim Zainuddin, head of the Malaysian Government’s Council of Eminent Persons have expressed that Sales and Services Tax (SST) will be reintroduced in place of the 0% GST in “two to three months’ time”.
