Volvo XC60 CKD coming soon, T5 and T8 variants, from RM299k to RM344k

At the launch of the fully-imported XC60 T8 Inscription Plus, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has revealed that they will be introducing the locally assembled variants of the premium mid-sized SUV in the coming months.

A total of three variants will be available – the entry-level T5 priced at RM298,888, T8 Inscription for RM333,888 and the range-topping T8 Inscription Plus at RM343,888. The CBU model will be replaced by the CKD variant but thanks to local hybrid assembly tax incentives, it is now RM30k cheaper.

 EXTERIOR

The T8 models wear the Inscription trim line which gets Inscription-specific chrome grille, exterior details in chrome, full LED headlamps with Active Bending Lights, dual integrated tailpipes and rides on 19-inch 10-spoke Black Diamond Cut Alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55 profile tyres.

On the other hand, the entry-level T5 wears the simpler Momentum trim line, standard LED headlamps and rides on smaller 18-inch five-Y-Spoke silver alloys wrapped in 235/60 profile tyres. The T5 is also the only variant to come with a temporary spare wheel while the T8s get tyre repair kits in case you come across a flat.

Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights, integrated roof rails and Windscreen Wipers with Integrated Washers remains standard across the board.

INTERIOR

The T8 Inscription Plus gets the same kit as the CBU model – 9.0-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 1,100W 15-speakers Bowers & Wilkins Premium Sound Audio System, three-spoke multifunctional Sport steering wheel, Orrefors Crystal Gear Lever, diamond-cut engine start/stop knob, 360-degree camera, and Panoramic Sunroof. The T8 Inscription only loses out on the Bowers & Wilkins sound system for a 10-speaker High Performance Audio set up.

The entry-level T5 drops the Orrefors Crystal Lever, 360-degree camera (it still gets a reverse camera) Sport steering wheel, heads-up display and panoramic sunroof. Elsewhere, leather upholstery, powered adjustable comfort seats with memory function for driver’s seat, 12.3-inch TFT Adaptive instrument cluster display and heads-up display, dual-zone automatic climate control with Clean Zone Interior Air Quality system.

PERFORMANCE

The T8 variants get the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged petrol engine paired to an electric motor that pushes out 407 hp and 640 Nm of twisting force. The petrol engine sends drive to the front wheels while the electric motor helps drive the rear axles, giving the XC60 all-wheel drive capabilities. Zero to 100 km/h takes 5.3 seconds while top speed is capped at 230 km/h.

The new entry variant T5 gets a more conventional setup, a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that belts 254 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Like the T8, the T5 also gets an eight-speed automatic transmission, only here, drive is sent exclusively to the front wheels. Century sprint is clocked at 6.8 seconds while top speed is a shade lower at 210 km/h. The T5 also benefits from a larger 60-litre fuel tank as opposed to the 50-litre capacity of the T8.

SAFETY

Volvo’s Intellisafe preventive safety systems are standard across the board – City safety pre-collision braking, Lane Keeping Aid (LKA), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Steer Assist, Electric Seat Belt Pretensioners and many more.

However, Volvo’s Pilot Assist that allows for semi-autonomous driving up to 130 km/h is reserved only for the T8 Inscription and Inscription Plus. So, remember, the XC60 T5 cannot drive itself.

WHAT ELSE?

Like all Volvo cars, the Volvo XC60 CKD gets a 5-Years Warranty package. There will be five exterior colour options to choose from – Ice White, Bright Silver, Osmium Grey, Onyx Black and Maple Brown.  In response to customer demands, VCM has also added a second leather upholstery colour for the locally assembled variant – Maroon Brown to join the Charcoal option.

Full specifications and features of the locally-assembled XC60 variants will be revealed in the months ahead but customers can now place their bookings for the XC60 CKD at all Volvo showrooms nationwide.
