2017 World Car of the Year: double victory for the Jaguar F-Pace!

The 2017 World Car of the Year Awards has just announced the winners during the ongoing 2017 New York International Auto Show. The Jaguar F-Pace emerged as the biggest winner as it bagged not one but two trophies, including the prestigious World Car of the Year award!

It was an entirely SUV affair for the award’s biggest category as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi Q5, and the F-Pace were the top three finalists. The F-Pace’s handsome looks won the hearts of the panel judges, making it a winner for the World Car Design of the Year award. Jaguar’s darling SUV also defeated the Toyota C-HR and Mercedes S-Class in that category.

On the other hand, the revised BMW i3 took the World Urban Car of the Year trophy. Despite the i3’s age, the ingenious electric city car from Munich outwits the conventional city cars such as the Citroen C3 and Suzuki Ignis in that category.

Mercedes-Benz have a reason to smile as its rather excellent W213 E-Class triumphs over the BMW 5-Series and Volvo S90/V90 for the World Luxury Car of the Year award. In the World Green Car of the Year award, the Toyota Prius Prime managed to edge against the Tesla Model X and the Chevrolet Bolt for the award win.

The Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster won the World Performance Car of the Year award, despite having less horsepower than the other two finalists, the McLaren 570S and Audi R8 Spyder. Looks like Stuttgart’s decision to downsize the engine on both the Cayman and Boxster was very much a commendable move.
