Contrary to our previous report, the all-new SUV by Mitsubishi won’t actually be the replacement model of the ASX, but rather an all-new one to supplement the company’s utilitarian offering.

Officially named the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, it’s quite unlike the blander ASX and Outlander duo. The new and third SUV will be much edgier and pays homage to the old Eclipse sports car of yore. What’s particularly interesting about this is the company’s target market – potential first-time owners of the Mitsubishi brand.

That claim is backed by two key traits of the car: a sharp, coupe-like body and a brand new, deep gloss red metallic paint specifically developed for the Eclipse Cross.

Every detail of the SUV will be revealed soon, when the Geneva Motor Show swings into full action.
