UMW Toyota has announced that the order books for the updated Toyota Camry are now open. Apart from adding new variants, the 2016 Toyota Camry also receives the same update as the recently updated Corolla Altis and Vios. This means that, at long last, all Camry variants sold in Malaysia come equipped with active safety and seven airbags as standard.

To start, four variants are offered, all of which are  based on the XV50 Camry launched in 2012. The entry level variant starts with 2.0E, followed by the new 2.0G X which replaces the G variant. This comes with 17-inch wheels, leather interior and 7-inch infotainment unit with DVD support. The range topping Hybrid model now can be had in two trims – 2.5 Premium and 2.5 Luxury.Toyota-Camry-Hybrid

Just like the Corolla Altis, no mechanical changes have been made. But just as a refresher, the 2.0E and 2.0G X variants are powered by a 2.0-litre four cylinder with VVT-iW that kicks out 165 hp and 199 Nm of torque. The 6AR-FSE engine remains paired with a six-speed automatic with Super ECT. The engine can run in both Atkinson and Otto cycle, where the former setting is for efficiency while the latter is more performance oriented.

The hybrid meanwhile, soldiers on with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder VVT-i t that’s combined with an electric motor to produce a grand total of 203 hp and 270 Nm of torque. An E-CVT box is the only gearbox available for the hybrid.Toyota-Camry-Hybrid-58

Also new to the range is Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and this is standard across all four variants. Moreover, the total airbag count is now up to seven (Driver, Passenger, Curtain, Side and Driver Knee), and on top of that, the 2.5 Luxury now gets Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert as well.

As for pricing, the revised 2016 Toyota Camry now starts at RM152,900.00 for the base 2.0E model, an increase of RM3,000 over the last year’s model. The updated 2.0G X retains the same pricing as the outgoing 2.0G at RM159,900.00, and the hybrid variant begins at RM164,900.00 for the 2.5 Premium and RM174,900.00 for the top of the range 2.5 Luxury.Toyota-Camry-Hybrid-71
